This piece is called “Waiting Pains''. The central feeling behind it is the ache a kid feels waiting for a better life when they are deeply dissatisfied with theirs.
I would have these day dreams constantly about getting married and having a big family, big nice house, money, live somewhere that was shiny and perfect. This dream is represented at the top of the tower, golden and beautiful, unreachable to the caged bird with clipped wings and no legs. She is helpless and stuck.
My vision started getting more and more specific, and I started making long lists as a hobby. When I was twelve, I went into foster care, like the twelve candles on the platform. Twelve years dreaming, and now I was getting my dream!
But Fostercare is both a curse and a blessing, I would soon come to find...
